On November 21st, UVA will be hosting Professor Lara Putnam from the University of Pittsburgh. Professor Putnam (here’s her website) is a Latin American an Atlantic World historian, and in the past 10 years she has also published a brilliant and widely read article for the American Historical Review about how digitization of sources is changing archival research, and since 2017 she has also been closely observing and writing about grassroots activism in western Pennsylvania.

Professor Putnam will be participating in two events:

  1. At 12:30 that day in Wilson 117, we’ll have an informal conversation about her new work on the influence of AI on archives and archival research. Please come, and RSVP so there’s enough food!
  2. At 4pm, over at the Digital Technology for Democracy lab above Kardinal Hall, she and I will be having a public conversation about digital technologies and grassroots organizing. You can find the event page here. After the event we’ll move downstairs for dinner at Kardinal.
