*RSVP REQUIRED This workshop centers on the first chapter of my manuscript, "Afro-Argentinian Artivism and Its Kaleidoscopic Visual Arenas," currently under advanced contract with Vanderbilt University Press. The book examines how plastic artists, filmmakers, and digital creators in Argentina challenge the nation's enduring myth of whiteness by bringing Afro-Argentinian lives, histories, and experiences back into focus. Across its chapters, the book analyzes a wide range of aesthetic strategies, from intimate portraiture, experimental film to transnational collaborations, and grassroots digital campaigns, that expose racial erasure and foreground the complexity of Afro-diasporic identities. Drawing on theories of decolonial visuality and the politics of visibility, Chapter One provides the theoretical foundation for this broader argument arguing that, collectively, these works reveal a dynamic field of Afro-Argentinian artivism that not only contests dominant narratives of national identity but also builds new ways of remembering, imagining, and belonging in contemporary Argentina.
